I firmly believe that Bent Rail Brewery has the potential to be the best, up and coming spot in South Broad Ripple. There, I said it. Bold words.
Brought to you by the same folks that own and operate Plough and Anchor as well as The Local Eatery & Pub, Bent Rail has transformed the former Monon Fitness Center into a space with endless possibilities. Located in the heart of SoBro, their spot right off the Monon is sure to make this place an instant success, especially as the weather turns nice, and everybody is looking to do a little porch sittin’ / beer drinkin’. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Director of Sales, Cari Crowe (follow her on twitter @mcaricrowe), to find out more about BRB.
What do Trndy Indy readers need to know about Bent Rail Brewery?
Trndy Indy readers need to know that BRB is going to be a brewery first, that just so happens to have great food! Beer first is the mission, but also we want it to be that neighborhood hangout place. With big TVs soon to come, it will be a great place to have some beers, eat some good food, and watch football on a Sunday. If that’s not your style, many folks can just ride up on their bikes from the Monon for a quick bite, and it has even become a destination for neighborhood families and their kids.
When will we be able to buy BRB beer?
SOON! There’s not an exact date yet, but permits for brewing are pending. The first crop of beer is already planned, and beer enthusiasts should know that BRB will offer more session-style beers. With a trend to go heavy on alcohol content prevailing, BRB wants their patrons to be able to come and enjoy a few beers without too sideways. Ultimately, BRB has put a lot of thought into the beers to come, and are focusing on really great flavor profiles.
What can Trndy Indy readers expect from the food?
The menu is definitely carnivorous-based. BRB is slowly gravitating toward a more farm to table approach, where many ingredients are sourced as locally as possible (produce, pork, chicken, etc.). There is a plan to start incorporating more vegan and vegetarian friendly options in the future, but ultimately, you need to know that BRB offers delicious, high quality food at an affordable price.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the food, and have listed out a few of my favorites below.
- Roasted Poblano Torta: I’ve eaten this a few times, and it’s only getting better. Think of the best black bean burger you’ve eaten, but on steroids.
- Our Favorite Panini: Loaded up with cured meats galore, this panini will knock your socks off. Literally, I walked out of there barefoot.
- Grilled Cheese: I know you can get grilled cheese most places, but this one was especially good. Of course, everything is better when you add bacon to it.
- Pork Belly Bahn Mi: Definitely a BRB signature dish, but it’s not for the faint of heart. If you like flavor and some spice, take a dive into this delicious sammy.
In my humble opinion, Bent Rail is just getting started. With a plan to have a great outdoor seating area by summer, I think BRB will be “the spot” in summer 2015. Show them some love, and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
