To say the Virginia Avenue Folk Fest on May 9th is “folking up Indy” could quite possibly be an understatement. The first (and hopefully annual) festival will host 12 straight hours of live music on nine different stages from 70 different musical acts all on Virginia Avenue in Fountain Square. And if great local beer, local music, and local arts weren’t enticing enough, it’s all for a good cause with proceeds of the event being donated to Trusted Mentors, a local non-profit.
As a lifelong, self-proclaimed camp kid, there are few things I love more than a cabin and the smell of a bonfire. Throw in a great cocktail? I’m sold. These simple pleasures were discovered when I entered Hotel Tango on a cold night in January, and I promptly claimed Hotel Tango as my new favorite spot. Hotel Tango is currently central Indiana’s only artisan distillery, and is the nation’s only service disabled combat veteran owned artisan distillery. A sign outside proudly says “No Mean Distillery”. The labels on their Hoosier homemade spirits read “For All.”
Perfect patio weather is back, Indy! I don’t know about you, but as soon as the weather breaks, I am dying to get out on one of the many Indy patios. Here are some great Indy gems, in no particular order, that always keep me going back for more.
Located on Virginia Avenue in Fletcher Place, even a cold and rainy morning could be made brighter by the spunky, warehouse-style fine diner at Milktooth. Greeted immediately by hipster hostesses and a line out the door, we knew we had found the place recommended by many Indy millennials. We put in our name for a few of the near 60 occupied seats, and headed for the combination coffee/cocktail bar.
