Wherever your Summer Road Trips take you Jason Aaron Coons should be There

The wait for new music is almost over for fans of local Indy artist, Jason Aaron Coons, who is set to release his latest EP Ride Vol. I on May 22nd. JAC first teased new music almost a year ago during live shows before releasing unofficial tracks on soundcloud months ago. The offerings delivered a continuation to the singer-songwriter’s evolution to a sonic synth-pop sound heard on his last EP, The Coast. Now almost a year later from his last release, it’s time to for fans and local music lovers to turn their car stereos up and just ride.

Last December, JAC alongside Thom Daughtery and Owen Thomas began working on Ride Vol. I. The trio worked previously on all of JAC’s earlier releases, but this was the first time all agreed this was it. This was the true sound of JAC. The four track EP has a superior production sound paired with talented songwriting that makes each listen seem fresh and exciting.

“This is the sound we’ve been trying to achieve the past two years. This is the sonic identity that we’ve been striving for and this is what we want.” JAC explained.

The EP will consist of “How We Operate” an angsty synth-pop-rock anthem and “This is Life,” a song that has alternative rock sentiments about graduating into adulthood. Both unofficial versions can be heard on JAC’s souncloud page. The EP will also offer two new songs, “Do It Again” an upbeat carefree summery track along with “Ride” a smooth electric ballad with an undeniable slow burn.

JAC will be performing at the HiFi in Fountain Square Friday, May 22nd, which will be the official release party for the new EP. And after playing multiple high-profile shows last year: Indy Pride, NCAA Final Four Festival, opening for Switchfoot as well as the international band London Grammar, this will be a show you won’t want to miss. JAC plans to play all the songs from the new EP while also giving fans a sneak peak of what is to come on Ride Vol. II, which he hopes to release later this summer. Yes – that’s right, another EP sooner rather later. Dream Chief, a synth-pop Indy band, will open up the show starting at 9pm.

Later this summer, JAC will play at his first festival outside of Indiana before returning to the Circle City to play at Indy Pride again this year. He also has tentative plans to release his second full length album Ride in early fall of 2015. His goals for 2015: sell out the HiFi on May 22nd and book a show in Chicago. It won’t be long before Indy’s ‘best kept musical secret’ gets the national recognition he deserves.
